Another Bangkok travel diary, this time on Christmas. Obviously, we didn't plan to go to Bangkok to celebrate Christmas since it isn't the best city for it. The majority religion in Bangkok is Buddhism, so you hardly see any big celebrations nor Christmas decorations here. 

To cut straight to the story, we spent 6 days in the city and again, we stayed at our favorite hotel in Bangkok, Amari Watergate Hotel. I'm not going to talk much on this as I've covered on why we love this hotel on my previous Bangkok trip. But to say it again, if you like street food and shopping, Pratunam is the best area to stay in Bangkok, and Amari Hotel is the best one to stay, good accommodation with great location.

Writing on travel post is never an easy one. The amount of time for choosing from hundreds of pictures, then editing them and the long writes. One of the reasons why I'm forcing myself to always do this after travel is because I enjoy rereading them and memorizing back those travel days. Also, I hope it can somehow be helpful for people who plan to travel to the same city, since I gained a lot of knowledge from blog walking on others' travel posts as well.

DAY 4 (CHATUCHAK WEEKEND MARKET - PLATINUM FASHION MALL - HELLO KITTY CAFE)

CHATUCHAK WEEKEND MARKET

When you plan a trip to Bangkok, be sure to fit in Saturday and Sunday so you don't miss Chatuchak. The market only opens on weekend and it has lots of things not to be missed, fashion, home wares, kitchen wares, souvenirs and the FOOD! Make sure you have a good bargaining skill, as besides from the food, everything is up for bargain. 
It opens from 8.30am, though many sellers will only open their shops around 10. 

Ivy's Travel: Bangkok Pattaya Diary [Part 1]

This year's CNY the whole family decided to not celebrate the old tradition in town, and since it's sort of long weekend, we flew to Bangkok.

While waiting for our flight back to Jakarta, we spotted this restaurant while we were walking to the gate. It was not big but crowded. We decided to have our dinner here. The menu book came with many choices, as I have not yet try Tom Yam Goong during my trip, I directly chose that to be my main course. Besides Tom Yam Goong (260 bath), my husband ordered Gaeng Phed Ped Yang (290 bath), it was red curry with roast duck. For the appetizer, we tried Gai Thod Nam Pla (210 bath), a plate of boneless deep fried chicken in fish sauce. 

I loved the Tom Yam Goong, it had generous amount of shrimp and mushroom and the tom yam taste was just superb. The duck curry was not good, the smell of the curry was too strong for both of us even though the duck meat was very tender. As for our appetizer, it was just so so... What can you expect from a boneless deep fried chicken anyway?

My husband and I went for a short trip to Bangkok recently. It was a business trip so we didn't have many chances to do food hunting. =( 

One night, a friend of my husband told us that we must try this popular seafood named Somboon Seafood. As he said that it was not far from the hotel we stayed in, we took Tuk Tuk there. The Tuk Tuk driver claimed to know the place, but after a 5 minutes ride, he took us to different seafood place. He finally admit he didn't know where Somboon was. Sigh! As we were starving, so we went along to the one this Tuk Tuk driver took us, that he claimed to be the best seafood in town. 

The place was empty when we came, it was a big restaurant and there were only 2 tables filled. There was a section where we can chose the seafood directly. We ordered Steam blood clam, grilled BBQ squid, chilli lemon fish ponfret, BBQ prawn and a plate of mixed vegetables.They were all delicious! The clams were big, not small ones like we mostly had in Jakarta's seafood place. The squid was grilled perfectly, the fish ponfret's broth was tasty, very refreshing with sour and sweet taste. They gave us chilli garlic with lemon for the dipping sauce, it was perfect but quite expensive. I cannot recall the individual price, but the total bill was 3067 bath, around IDR 920,000. It was worth it.
