Letter D Gandaria Jakarta

If Chef Arnold have his NOMZ, another Masterchef's judge, Chef Degan also have his own restaurant, Letter D. I like the brand, it's simple and they are smart by naming it Letter D, represents the owner's initial.

Initially, I wasn't really keen on trying this place as the location sucks for me. Way too far from where I stay. But I've heard quite a good reviews from several friends so I thought I'd give it a shot.

The moment I stepped down from car, I instantly love the venue. It's just beautiful! It's a two storey house turned into restaurant. I adore the pretty monochrome.

You would see their semi open kitchen as you enter the main door. If you sit on the first floor, to the right you will find a table with displays of their cakes of the day. I liked the furniture they used. I think the expensive wood suits well with the monochrome tone.

I didn't have the chance to take any shots of the first floor interior as the restaurant was having a media interview. We were seated on second floor. The stairways is pretty, dig the parquet hard wood flooring. That high ceiling and those glass windows, man this restaurant, both exterior and interior are just nice!

Letter D offers Asian food with mostly Indonesian and Thai on the menu. The price range is quite humble for such pretty venue. The service was very polite, but the food serving time was ridiculously long! They really need to improve on that, couple of friends who have been here also complaining on the same issue. So, we ordered:

TORTILLA (100k)
Spiced beef, guacamole, tomato salsa, sour cream, ice berg

We were going to order their Ayam Pandan for appetizers when suddenly change it to this tortilla wrap. It was not good. The tortilla was too thick, and the spiced beef was too little, as we chewed, what tasted the most was the crunchy veggies and floury taste from the tortilla wrap. Should've went with the chicken.

SNAPPER ALLA MARINARA (120k)
Foil baked snapper, Tomato, Olive, Caper, Onion, Basil, Mint

Beautiful presentation. The colors and plating were beautiful. It came with crusty toasted garlic bread, unfortunately the salmon was overcooked. Shame, after waiting that long we were hoping to get a beautiful well cooked salmon.

LAKSA (95k)
Prawn, fish balls, egg noodle, cucumber, sprouts, tofu, quail egg, torch ginger, laksa broth

Finally, after two disappointments, the Laksa comes to the rescue. Though it was not the best I've ever had, but it was pretty good. The broth was warm, light and full of flavor. The toppings were generous and fresh. A worthy recommended 95k.

It's hard to put a tag of good or bad based on one visit. All I can say is, the venue is pretty, love the natural lighting, the service was excellent, the waiting time for the food served needs a big improvement. As for the food, judging by only this visit, I would have to say the letter D is not an initial for Delightful.

Thank you for reading!

Glad to read honest review for the dishes. Since I was really disappointed with NOMZ for their services and taste, I want to be careful with this one.

The interior is really pretty and stand out at night. Hope they have improve when I visit them
