Ivy's Travel: Bangkok Travel Diary {Part III}

Story on my previous posts on Bangkok travel diary can be read here.

DAY 4 - BIG C SUPERMARKET - CHATUCHAK MARKET - CENTRAL WORLD PLAZA - BAN KHUN MAE @SIAM SQUARE - AFTER YOU

BIG C SUPERMARKET
Address: 11 Ratchadamri Road, Lumphini, Patum Wan (Right across Central World Plaza)
Opening hours: 9am - 12midnight

BIG C is the biggest supermarket in Bangkok. You can find almost anything here. They have several outlets but the biggest and most complete one, also with the most strategic location is the one across Central World Plaza. The fact that it's located quite close, like 5-10 minutes walking distance from our hotel makes it so much easier. Anyway, the supermarket is huge and it has several restaurants in the ground floor. The supermarket located on the first floor. The pricing here is comparably cheap.

We went to Chatuchak market again after we've done with grocery shopping and drop it at our hotel. I'm not going to post another pictures of Chatuchak since the second time, I didn't take any pictures so I can focus on shopping.

CENTRAL WORLD PLAZA

Central World Plaza is one of the largest and popular shopping mall in Bangkok besides Siam Paragon. On the 6th and 7th floor, are filled with many cafes and restaurants, but what caught our attention aside from the permanent night market in front of them, is the seasonal food and fashion bazaar right in front of Central World Plaza. It's a seasonal thing, not permanent but this bazaar thing is quite often. The last time we're here last year, we also bumped into the same bazaar. When you're in town, be sure to check them out as the bazaar is so much fun. Talk about the goods and fashion first, so many unique and good stuffs here, price isn't really cheap but still, it's Bangkok, nothing really as expensive. While the food is just, terrific, fried pork belly, fried chicken skin, grilled squid, seafood, tom yum noodles, thai tea, and so many more.

BAN KHUN MAE
Address: 458/6-9, Siam Square Soi 8, Rama 1 Road, Phatum Wan
Opening hours: 11am - 11pm

Ban Khun Mae hold a reputation of serving an authentic local Thai food. Everything here is so authentic, from the restaurant, the design, the waiters uniform and of course, the food taste. Honestly, the restaurant design creeps me a bit, as it was so dark, and they have this lady playing Thai's instrumental live on the spot. But, as long the food is good, I'm good.
A trip to Bangkok won't be complete without having three of their most popular food, Som Tam (papaya salad), Pla Kapong (steamed fish in lime) and Tom Yum Goong. Unfortunately they ran out of the som tam. All the dishes we ordered are so good! The flavors are all very strong and authentic. Recommended!

Steamed Snapper with Lime (THB 340)

Tom Yum Goong (THB 200)

Sauteed Chicken with Chilli and Lime Basil (THB 140)

AFTER YOU DESSERT
Address: http://www.afteryoudessertcafe.com/

From tons of dessert cafes in Bangkok, After You definitely is the most popular one. Their specialty is the shibuya toast. After we have dinner at Ban Khun Mae, we cross the road and strolling around Siam Paragon and bumped into After You. It wasn't on our plan to have dessert here as we are so full, but After You is so popular that I even read an article saying that you haven't been in Bangkok before you have a Shibuya toast at After You, seriously. And they always have this long queue, makes me even more curious. As a first timer, we tried their specialty Original Shibuya Honey Toast (THB 185) comes with unlimited honey sauce and vanilla ice cream. The toast is so goooood. Like beyond my expectation. Crisp and fluffy with a winning honey sauce, and have I mention, unlimited? Simply a dessert shop not to be missed out.

I'm not going to talk on my last day in Bangkok since we went to airport around 12noon, and our morning only spent with having breakfast at Pratunam Market and then chillin' in our room while waiting for check out time.

HOW TO RIDE THE BTS (BANGKOK TRAIN SYSTEM) OR SKY TRAIN

BTS is one of the easiest and most convenient way to travel around Bangkok. Though, it is very recommended to check first on whether your destination is close to BTS station, if it doesn't, taxi will be preferable, as walking quite far under Bangkok's heat is not a fun thing to do. We personally not really like to use BTS as our hotel is not located near one, and the BTS is always so crowded that after the long walk, we don't really have the energy to squeeze and standing the whole ride. Though when we ate a lot, we like to exercise ourselves with a BTS ride, to burn that unnecessary calories. :)

Basically, if you are familiar with MRT in Singapore, it is easy to ride BTS. The machine only accept coins. If you don't have one, you can exchange it at the booth next to the ticket machine, but the queue normally quite long, so prepare coins in advance will help you save time.

1. You need to know your destination first. Next to the ticket machine, there's a fare information of each destination. You see the number on circle? That's the fare in Bath. So, once you know your destination, you'll know how much is your fare destination.

All you need to do...

2. Step 1, you just select the fare, insert your coins and take the ticket.

3. Voila! Easy peasy!

My Bangkok travel story ends here. Thank you so much for joining me on my travel series! =)
