It always excites me whenever a new restaurant opened by a qualified F&B group, it means, at least I can partly have my high hopes upfront. Even though, things like that can't always be certain. Super Loco is a Mexican restaurant and bar managed by Union group and Singapore's Loco group.
It was Saturday afternoon when my girls and I went there. The place is smaller than I expected, but comes with a catchy design. I would recommend to have the seat at their semi open terrace where they have colorful couches and tables, just for a more Mexican cheerful kind of ambiance feel. Too bad, we were seated inside where the lights are yellow dimmed. One thing that I don't like about their seating arrangements is how they put too many tables in a small room. I hated it when the space between each tables are only separated by 4 inches, because people next to you can easily hear your conversation.
Anyway, I'm sorry for the lack of interior images, but Super Loco was so crowded during our visit and I have always been hesitated in taking too many pictures when too many people are involved.
The unfavorable thing was, we didn't know that during weekend they only serve brunch menu until 3.30pm then follow with snacks only until 5.30pm, left us to limited options. So the brunch menu don't have any other taco selections besides the DIY (Do it Yourself) Taco Set IDR 250.000,-. It said to be served up to three persons, but we feel it is only enough for 2. The taco set comes with only one choice of meat; pork belly/ beef/ chicken/ black beans for vegetarian. Served with guacamole, onion salsa, lettuce, chipotle mayo, cheese, hot sauce, lime.
DIY Taco Set IDR250.000,-
It was regrettable that the taco set can only choose for 1 main options, it would be preferable if the options can be stretched to two. Anyway, we chose pork belly and they were okay. The good and bad about a Do It Yourself taco is we can choose which sauces to be used in any preference we like, the not so good thing is the lack of knowledge of ours on which sauces or ingredients to be paired with that resulted in the overall taste.
Super Huevos Rancheros IDR 95.000,-
Super huevos rancheros is a cheese quesadilla with refried beans, sunny side eggs, salsa, guacamole and sour cream. Big portion with well balanced flavor, though I do feel they can add more spices on the guacamole.
Res Taco IDR 85.000,-
8 hr braised short rib, onion and chili marmalade, red cabbage
Aside for the way too caramelized onion on the top, the taco with that melted on your mouth short rib was superb. Too bad we came at the hours where the standard full menu wasn't being served, so we can't order any other taco menu.
I personally feel the restrictions they have on which menu available for order during weekend is unnecessary. During weekend, they only serve brunch menu up to 3.30pm, then only snacks menu until 5.30pm. Or at least, if they need to have time restrictions on the menu, it will be good to be informed in advance during reservation, since not all restaurants come with this policy so customers might not be publicly aware. #justmytwocents
Funny is, my favorite of the day was their appetizer, Totopos Y Salsas IDR 110.000,-. The corn chips, otherwise known as nachos comes with three dipping, guacamole, salsa roja and spicy pina salsa. The last one was seriously too good. Light, sour and spicy at the same time, making it a perfect dip over the corn chips. So good!
Totopos Y Salsas IDR 110.000,-
Overall, we had a good lunch and I am open to the idea of coming back, but probably not on weekend to avoid the crowd and limited menu policy.
Thank you for reading!
