Ivy's Guide: List of GyuTan Don in Jakarta

Undeniably GyuTan Don has makes its way to be one of the trending food at the moment. The word Gyu is Japanese word for cow and Tan stands for tongue in english. This rice bowl with sliced beef tongue is a Japanese dish, but it doesn't stop restaurants serving other cuisines also comes with their versions of GyuTan Don on the menu.
Being an avid fan of GyuTan Don, I am always excited to try them. So here's my list of GyuTan Don in Jakarta. Read on! :)

CRANKY CRAB
Address: Gedung Samudera Rasa & Happy Puppy
Jl. Boulevard Raya QF 1 No. 1
Kelapa Gading
Ph. +6221 45843837
Opening hours: 11am - 1am (Fri & Sat until 3am)

Gyu Tan Don (68k)
You might be having the same thought as I did at first. Why on earth does a crab restaurant serves Gyu Tan Don? Technically they don't. The Gyu Tan here is cooked by @melbournekitchen, Cranky Crab acts as the stockist, sort of.
Aside from the excellent flavors, the Gyu Tan here has optional of additional scrambled eggs which makes the overall don tastes even better.

MAMA GOOSE
Address: Common House Level 2
Jl. Panglima Polim Raya IX No. 16
Kebayoran Baru
Ph. +6221 7229292
Opening hours: 10.30am - 11pm (Fri - Sun until 1am)

Gyu Tan Don (70k)
Mama Goose's version of GyuTan Don comes with a poached egg on the top. Personally I am not too fond of theirs due to the runny egg yolk which makes the rice turned a bit gooey as it melted. Nevertheless rest assure the tender ox tongue comes to the rescue.

THE FCTRY BISTRO & BAR
Address: St. Moritz Mall Puri Indah
Jl. Puri Lingkar Luar Barat
Puri Kembangan
Ph. +6221 9111038
Opening hours: 9am - 10pm (Sat & Sun until 12mid)

Ox Tongue Don (75k)

The Fctry Bistro took their Gyu Tan Don into another different level with the option of adding foei gras into it. Though many voted theirs as one of the best, personally I find it a bit lacking of flavors. During my visit there was no options of adding chilli padi to make it spicy, but perhaps there is now.

BELLY INC
Address: Ruko Crown Golf Blok D No. 20
Pantai Indah Kapuk
Ph. +6221 29210551
IG: @bellyinc

Gyu Tan Don (85k)

Belly Inc's GyuTan Don is a bit pricey compare to the others. The flavors however worth the slightly overpriced. The ox tongue is generously provided and well cooked. The sad part is the pro cons over the taste due to its inconsistency. Hopefully they'll work it out soon.

YING THAI
Address: Ruko Crown Golf Blok B No. 8-9
Pantai Indah Kapuk
Ph. +6221 29525756

Ox Tongue Grapow (65k)

Ying Thai might be a Thai restaurant, but their delightful Ox Tongue Grapow made the cut to be one of the best in town. Me especially fond of their flavors, the extra leeks and chili padi boost up the overall taste. With only 65k, a must try!

NEGIYA DONBURI
Address: Citywalk Sudirman 2nd Flr
Jl. KH. Mas Mansyur Kav 21, Sudirman
Ph. +6221 29704051
IG: @negiyadonburi

Menya Gyutan Don (79k)

Negiya Donburi is a restaurant focusing in serving Donburi with their specialty, Menya Gyutan Don. They are in collaboration with O Bento group Melbourne who are in charge for the success of Menya Ramen, the one that utterly famous for its Gyutan Don. Since they are the one licensed with it, many have claimed they have the closest taste to the original one. I personally find the Gyutan to be slightly mushy and lack of flavors.

Lots of Melbournian will tend to compare any GyuTan Don with the famous Menya in Melbourne. Since I have never try one, please don't ask me which one I think is closest to Menya. So, which one is your favorite so far? If you know any other great GyuTan Don in town, please help to drop a comment. :)

Thanks for reading! =)
