Pokenbir is a humble restaurant located at the lobby of an office building around Kuningan. It's the kind of place where the owner doesn't really rely on social media to promote their restaurant. I happened to know them because this whole one week, one of my group chat has been dominated with their name. My friends rave about this place so high that I have to go check them out. Oh, fyi, my friend knows this place from her friend that works in the building, so I guess Pokenbir rely on good words of their customers, and that's what a good restaurant really should be right? Mouth to mouth good words from satisfied customers instead of only huge endorsements in social media to promote their place.
Pokenbir specializes in pork, and spoiler alert, everything that we ordered was so good! Aside from the food, honestly nothing really to talk about. The interior was a bit old with dimmed light and those plaid tablecloths. I can't remember the last time I went to a restaurant with plaid tablecloth. Short to say, it's the kind of place where you come only to enjoy the food, not the ambiance.
Back to food, the portion was quite fulfilling so be extra careful before ordering. We went with their Nasi Campur Bali (75k), Nasi Babi Penyet (75k) and Mix Platter (105k for small size). I'd say they exceeded my expectation.
The nasi campur bali comes with four kinds of pork that all were cooked so tender and flavorful. It's not exactly the same like the original Balinese rice in Bali, but it's the closest one here.
Though the look might not be appetizing, the taste sure did. The babi penyet was so so tender, with the sambal, the boiled cassava leaves, sounds so simple, but everything on the plate was cooked right making it a very enjoyable dish.
Their mix platter is something you can't missed out. Comes with two kinds of bacon, one is char grilled, one is caramelized, pork belly, pork satay and french fries. The french fries undoubtedly was only there to filled up the empty space on the plate, nothing special, but all the pork? YUM! Seriously, I couldn't emphasize more on how tender they cooked all the meats here. The pork belly was juicy and crisp. The pork satay was so good and so was the bacon, I prefer the non caramelized one though. Less sweet. They come with three kinds of dipping, the good old chilli sauce, sweet soy sauce and the honey mustard. The latter one definitely is the winning dips.
Man, with all that high praise I just shared, I do hope they are being consistent with the flavors, cooking method and texture. If you are pork lovers, you might want to give this place a visit, and I hope it will be as enjoyable as mine.
