328 Katong Laksa @East Coast Rd Singapore

After two days full of western & Japanese type of fusion, we ended our last day in Spore with something more original. The famous 328 Katong Laksa is one of the most talked about when you wanted to eat a nice bowl of Laksa in the hometown. Located in the east cost road, simply took a cab and say Katong Laksa at East Coast, as you will not find any MRT near there.

Old Airport Road Hawker Centre

One night on our way to Orchard, we took a cab from Sentosa and the driver was very friendly and chatty. He shared with us that one of his favorite hawker centre was the one at Old Airport road. So after wandering Orchard and being unsure about where to have our dinner, we decided to try on what the Uncle told us before.

It was almost 9pm when we reached there and some of the stalls were closing. Luckily there were many of them still open. The hawker centre was big, I think they have hundred stalls at least. We looked for a table and then took turn on ordering. These was our orders:

Wonton Noodle ($4) - Cho Kee Noodle stall #01-04

Fried Oyster

Seafood Dry Horfun ($4) - Hong Yun Delicacies stall #01-61

Chicken Wings

Guidance: Exit Mountbatten MRT and walk straight, you will see the hawker centre on your left, or took a cab for easier way.

Sate Babi Johan

My parents and I went for a casual dine at Pantai Indah Kapuk's fresh market. On my way there, My mom and I were thinking to have our usual Bubur Ayam Cirebon, but when we passed Sate Babi Johan and saw the crowds, we changed our plan and my dad tagged along.

As I remember, previous they only served Bakut Sayur Asin and Sate Babi, but now they have more varieties in their satay selections, they have sweet pork satay, liver satay, skin stay, etc. We ordered 20 pcs satay mixed of each satay and a portion of Bakut Sayur Asin (21k). The price range for the satay was from 1,5k - 3,5k each.

I like the satay, the meat was tender but some of them was too dry, I think it depends on how they grilled. Anyway, we all agreed the liver one was the best. As for the Bakut sayur asin, to me the broth was supposed to be more sour. But overall, it was acceptable and I don't mind to come back.

Nasi Pedas Ibu Andika Bali

Among all food vendors in Bali, Nasi Pedas Ibu Andika was the one that I am really curious with. I have heard many reviews about the chilli and the never ending queue. After our unfavorable dinner at Menega, we went back to hotel to took shower and then we took taxi to Andika. I was still very full but it didn't stop me from trying this spicy rice.

When we reached there, the rumors about never ending queue was right. It was jam packed with people and I saw many of them were sitting beside the street without even sitting as the chairs weren't enough. I was very excited on trying.

We were having difficulty when choosing the dishes as many of the selections had finished already. It was a 24 hours street vendors but maybe they haven't finished adding up, so some of the trays were empty. To me, it was just an ordinary spicy mixed rice, nothing special and I didn't understand what was it that make so many people talking about this place, or maybe I just put to high expectations.

This one was my husband's: Rice with chicken curry, tofu, glizzard and beef satay (25k)

This one was mine: rice with shredded chicken, gizzard, floss, and pumpkin (21k)

Fresh Market Pantai Indah Kapuk

This place had been my recently visit when I am lazy to dress up and feel like eating something good but cheap. In the morning it was a market, but they turned it into places to eat at night. There were more than 30 stalls, most of all were cheap and tasty. Here's what I ate last friday when I went there with my hubby and parents.

Bubur Ayam Cirebon (Cirebon chicken porridge)
This was my must eat food everytime I went to Fresh Market PIK. The porridge was delicious. I usually order half portion with extra glizzards. =) A must try one!
Price:
1 portion: 10k, 1/2 portion: 7k
Extra glizzard: 3k

Siomay Babi (Pork Siewmay)

This was also a good. It located next to chicken porridge stall.
Price: 6k/ pcs

Sate Padang (Padangnese Satay)

This one also my favorite and a must try one. I loved their satay, usually I always chose the tongue part, so it's more tender.
Price: 1.5k/ pcs

Martabak Telur Bandung Jaya

Tasty. I always loved martabak eggs and this one quickly enter my favorite martabak stalls.
Price: 29k
Martabak: thick folded crepe filled with spices and pieces of meat

Most of my visit to the stalls at Fresh Market PIK was never became a disappointment. I liked the casual environment that I didn't need to worry about dressing up, the price of foods that I didn't have to worry about ripping up my wallet... my husband's to be exact =), the taste that always suited me.

Makan Sutra Gluttons Bay

Another post about my food hunting in Singapore. I have heard about Makan Sutra Gluttons Bay but never had the chance to go there everytime I went to Singapore. This time, it was a non planned visit. After our company's event that was held at Suntec Exhibition Centre ended around 8pm, we were starving but didn't want to eat at Suntec mall. So we decided to walk around Marina Mandarin (hotel we were staying at), turns out "Makan Sutra Gluttons Bay" was just right behind Esplanade, and Esplanade was only opposite of our hotel.

It was almost 9.30pm when we arrived and the place was still very crowded. It was like a backyard full with food stalls. We decided to each order 1 main course to share among us. I chose char kwetiau ($6), my two colleagues chose grilled string ray ($10) and BBQ chicken wings ($1.3/pcs). We saw many tables ordered the chicken wings. We added oyster egg omelette ($8).

We can choose the portions of kwetiau from Small ($4), Medium ($6) and Large ($8) . It was cooked with bean sprouts, jerked meat, prawn, egg and kucai. It was ok, not bad, not good either.

I didn't like the grilled string ray. It was not bad, but didn't suit my taste. However my colleagues quite like it.
It was just typical grilled fish, nothing special.

This one was the best among all dishes that we had that night. No wonder most of the tables we saw had the same chicken wings. It was big, we ordered 6 pcs and hardly could finish them. But it was good, the BBQ sauce was really seep in.

This one was the worst. The oyster still had this fishy smell. Not good at all.

I think besides of the chicken wings, the rest of the dishes was not pleasant. As the place was not comfortable for eating (hot and humid, perhaps depending on the weather too as it was outdoor venue), I will not be coming back unless if I am craving for the wings. =)
