One of the perks of staying in Jakarta is the food festivals. Normally three to four times in a year, hundreds of food stalls will be gathered around in a festival sponsored by a particular brand. Going to food festivals is by far one of my favorite thing to do, like a happy kid in her La La Land.

Several months ago in one Saturday morning, I picked up my friend in her house. My friend's house was located inside the Pluit Sakti complex and entering the complex there were security post where they will handed us an entrance card. Being located in quite secure complex, I found it a little bit strange passing by a noodle seller (street cart vendor type) inside the neighborhood, and it was crowded. Lots of cars parked around the cart, and as it was a street vendor with only 2 small tables, I saw the customers bringing the bowl to be eaten at their cars. At that time, I was thinking I have to give it a try. I did, several morning ago.

I went with my husband around 8 something on Sunday morning, and again the place was full. The owner was a quite elder man, it was really a typical street cart noodle vendor. I saw they used a look like abandoned empty house across to put few tables in the yard. I asked the owner what did he sell, he told me he only have one type of chicken noodle (10k) with no other options, so we ordered two bowls. While waiting for our noodle, I saw there was a plastic container filled with fried meatballs (6k). We took 3 pcs and it was surprisingly yum, no smell of rancid from the cooking oil. 

The noodle came, again to emphasize it was literally very standard typical noodle with minced soy sauce chicken in the top. The taste was not bad, but just so so & nothing special. Looking at the crowd, I can only say some place really must have a good feng shui.

Ice Cream Durian Bang Didi

This was a post when I went to Bogor couple weeks ago. Every time we go there, our first stop is always at this Durian ice cream stall. This stall really serves the best durian ice cream. At least, until now I haven't found any others who can beat Bang Didi's. He was very generous in using the real durian fruit, unlike other vendors who used ice cream more than the fruit itself. It was a little heaven melted in mouth. Definitely recommended. 

They have 2 size of glass, small one was 8k and big one was 15k. To me the small one was more than enough, but I saw many people preferred the big one.

 

Guidance: From freeway exit Bogor, took left to Tajur and you will see a big supermarket on your left side. I cannot remember was it Hero or Giant. Beside it, you will see an alley, turn left and on your left you will see a stall beside the road named "Ice Cream Durian Bang Didi". You will find it for sure, the queuing line was too hard to missed.

My best friend and her sister took me to China town (a.k.a Pancoran) around 5 days after Idul Fitri so the streets on our way there was still quite smooth. Even the parking was still a headache. China town was not really a place I like to go. I don't really comfortable with any place which include traffic jam and buzzing crowd, however, I was persuaded with the famous Sate Padang. I wouldn't say that it was the best, but it was good. This time, you are allow to judge by it's picture. ;)

Mie Dorokdok + Poka Tiam

Last Sunday, me and my hubby went to Bandung. It was an impromptu trip so just the two of us. We reached there around 9am something and went straight to Pasir Kaliki. I read in one of food blogger's blog about a street vendor that sells noodle which she loved, so we headed there to give it a try. The vendor was located at the front of Poka Tiam, a Singaporean kopi tiam. We decided to order 1 bowl first incase it wasn't good. The noodle was called Mie Dorokdok (13k). We can choose dry or wet, served with meatballs, beef tripe and tendon topped with cowhide crackers. It wasn't bad but very standard noodles, the difference was only at the crunchy crackers. 

After that, we went in to Poka Tiam and ordered Fried pork kwetiau (25k), Fried samcan with chilli salt (32k), Siewmay (16,8k), Ice barley (8,8) and Soya milk (8,8k). The kwetiau came in a very oily presentation, and I didn't see any pork, they just put pork sausages inside and small chopped of char siu . It was indeed oily and wasn't good at all, tasteless and unseasoned. The siewmay was like those frozen siewmay which you can find in supermarket. The fried samcan was quite ok but definitely not good enough to make me want to come back. Luckily there was 25% discount using certain credit card to at least make me felt better about the unfavorable breakfast.

From ULAM, my husband wanted to visit his buyer in Bali. I can't remember where it was, but on our way back from that place, I saw Swikee Purwodadi in the side of the road. I never try it in Jakarta, so we stopped by before went back to hotel. 

We quickly ordered Bahkut sayur asin (16.5k), Kodok masak pedas (23.5k) and Cah sayur hijau (10k). We asked for 1 rice to share as we were still very full from our lunch at ULAM. The Bahkut sayur asin was very very very salty, i guessed the cook mistakenly put in too much salt. I was not really into any kinds of other meat except chicken, beef, lamb, and I didn't took to much pork. But Swikee Purwodadi was quite famous in Jakarta, so I wanted to try the frog. The only frog meat I ever ate was the one at Jun Njan and it was delicious to the last bite. The one in Purwodadi was so so, I let my husband finished them. Hehe
