Warung Legong Pantai Indah Kapuk

Warung Legong is the newest addition of Balinese food at Pantai Indah Kapuk. If you are familiar with Little Ubud also at PIK or the infamous Nasi Pedas Ibu Andika in Bali, this one shares the same cuisine and concept. With "warung" style system, they serve ready to eat traditional mixed rice in rattan plate. In here, customers could just choose the dish they like, then they will give you a piece of paper with the value of food you choose.

I have spotted the place since it was under preparation, at first the name Legong fooled me to think that it was some sort of store selling the famous souvenir snack from Bali, Pia Legong. They located just across Waterbom and next to the dessert shop, Snow bowl. The interior design is pretty much simple, red color dominates the whole room with earthy natural wooden used on the furniture. As you entered, you will find trays of food with selections of:
  • Chicken: Ayam suwir , Ayam Padang, Kulit ayam, Sate lilit ayam, Ayam Betutu
  • Beef: Dendeng Balado, Empal goreng
  • Vegetables: Cah kangkung, Urap, Tumis tahu buncis, Daun singkong, Kentang balado, Telur balado, Tempe goreng
  • Bakmi & Bihun goreng

They have options of steamed white rice or purple rice (made from yam) and two kinds of chilli, Sambal Legong (made from terasi) and Sambal matah. I took the normal white rice with fried noodles, fried chicken skins, shredded chicken and gulai daun singkong (cassava leaves in coconut milk) with both of the sambals.

With only 28k, the portion were more than generous. I had this during lunch and it kept me full until late night. I do hope the portion will not be shrinking once the soft opening is over. On the taste itself, I didn't like the rice. It was cooked too soft that I feel like eating a failed porridge. I heard the table next to mine was complaining on the soft rice too. However, ruling out the rookie mistake on how to cook a proper rice, the rest of the dishes were actually good. I especially liked how the cassava leaves were nicely cooked and seasoned. The chicken skin was crunchy, the chicken was good, fried noodle might need more seasoning. Both chillis were disappointing. Not even close to spicy. But overall for a 28k, it was an okay decent meal.

As an addition, they also serve mini martabak and snow ice for dessert. At the moment, they currently had opening promotion of getting mini martabak or snow ice free for every dine in of minimum 25k spent from 6-8pm until July 31st. Since I was there during lunch time, the promotion was not valid, but I still order the Martabak Nutella (25k). The base dough need improvement, was not soft enough, fortunately the utterly thick overloaded nutella spread totally helps!

My heart still lean a bit towards to Little Ubud merely because they win on the chilli part but the rest of the dishes more or less cooked and tasted the same to me. Personally I am happy welcoming Warung Legong. The neighborhood need more of this affordable diners, it's a good place to have a quick and cheap home food meals.
