EBISUYA BANDENGAN JAKARTA

I am very skeptical when it comes to Japanese food. Judge me all you want, but I always feel the pricier they are, the better quality they would be. I am an avid believer in no fresh quality sushi comes in cheap price.

When I found out about Ebisuya, a new Japanese eatery located at Bandengan, honestly I wasn't eager to try. The huge building and interior is what finally brought me there last week. It was a bold move to open this kind of restaurant in the neighborhood which mostly crowded with humble home cook type of food.

What first caught my attention the moment we stepped in was none other than the mural painting all over the wall. It surely brighten up the room. The restaurant is huge with high ceiling and bright yellow lights, with sushi bar on the center. They really did put an effort on the whole interior and exterior.

If you are looking for an affordable Japanese food with lots, and I mean lots of options to choose from, Ebisuya it is. The selections of sushi and set meals are plenty!

Seiro Gomoku Unagi (110k)
Steamed broiled eel combined with assorted vegetable over the rice served with salmon katsu, miso soup, pickles and dessert.

Served in a bamboo basket, the set menu is quite a steal. Too bad we didn't feel anything special. Personally we think the veggie they put over the rice is unnecessary and kinda ruin the flavor. The unagi was cooked a bit too soft. The side dishes of salmon katsu and chocolate ice cream turns to be the saver.

Maguro Akami (30k), Salmon Sashimi (35k) and Tako Sashimi (35k)

The sashimi were decent, I liked the fact they came in quite thick slices. The freshness is still acceptable.

Beef Tongue (65k)

Horrible! The beef was soft and mushy instead of juicy and tender like how a beef tongue should be. And the sauce they put on top of the beef made it worse. Weird taste and over use.

Bacon Sushi (18k), Beef Tongue Sushi (20k), Ikura Gunkan (25k)

The bacon sushi was unique and really good. It came in thick slice and well grilled. The beef tongue was again horrible. Ikura gunkan is salmon roe rolled with nigiri sushi inside a soy sheet, I liked it, generous fresh salmon roe.

We had a so so dinner. The sushi was not bad, but we didn't taste anything special. Overall the whole experience for us was just standard, though it's good to find a Japanese restaurant in the neighborhood.

Hello Ms Ivy,

Thank you for taking the time to write and leave us with your honest comments and feedback.
We appreciate your comment regarding our interior and exterior design, the portion of the food and our sushi.

We are sorry you were not fully satisfied with the taste of the Seiro Gomoku Unagi and Beef Tongue.

If I may explain, The Unagi is softer than usual because we steamed it together with the rice. And for the vegetables, we soaked them in konbu and sake as the main ingredients to brings out the taste of our signature Seiro. Nevertheless, again we are apologized if it didn't suit your taste.

Moreover, we are really sorry that the Beef Tongue did not meet your expectations. We will make the changes on the sauce and correct the recipe of the beef tongue.

However, I will share your feedback with our team and personally follow up on the issues you have highlighted.

Thank you once again for dining with us, and we hope to have an opportunity to serve you again.

Best regards,

Hi ivy just want to say that im totaly agree with you in terms of the serviced. It takes me about 1 hour to eat all my dishes which is half is raw.

So this is my comment on ebisuya restaurant.

1. Time of serving worst bcoz most japs food is raw and it take them quite long time to prepared. I come when the restaurant in 40% of capacity. If in full capacity it will be chaos

2. Server personel lack of knowledge of how to served food properly.

3. sushi quality raw is quite good. But some dish should be elevate by preparing dipping sauce dont just fried without any dips.
4. Price is fair.
5. Decor is fantastic
