UMABO

It always funny how a restaurant seems to be less stand out from other more happening ones, especially when they seriously offer a great food. In this case, Umabo is the perfect example. My friends and I have the similar feelings towards the place when it was just opened on beginning of this year. It was a new place which we normally would be excited to try, but we just don't, until last month, 7 months after their opening and we finally decided to give it a shot.

We started our lunch with Chilli cheese fries (25k) and Cornitas (28k). Both brings satisfaction to our palate. I especially liked the beef con carne on the fries and I liked how the Cornitas (crispy corn with pineaaple salsa and chilli jam) were nicely fried, not oily and we can still get the sweetness from the corn. It tasted sweet and sour at the same time thanks to the pineapple salsa.

We ordered the popular rice bowls, Steak & Eggs (65k) and Ribs Me Up (60k). Both comes with options of having the eggs well done or half cooked. We actually opted for each to taste which one is nicer, but the chef probably forgot and we got well done eggs on both bowls. I prefer the Steak & Eggs as it comes with kimchi fried rice, love the seasoning and the sour hint on the kimchi added a beautiful flavor to the overall bowl. We also liked how the meat were well cuts and tender. The Ribs me up came later, and after having to taste the rich and bold flavor from Steak & Eggs, we somehow felt Ribs me up tasted a bit bland.

Ribs Me Up!

We had one of the burgers too, Steroid Burger (65k). The taste was not that superb but I loved how the beef patty was so juicy and the bun was very soft, too bad the egg was overly cooked so there was no sinfully runny egg yolk on the center.

We enjoyed our lunch at Umabo very much. Great food with good value. I personally even came back a few days after with Hubs and had the same orders of Steak & Eggs and Chilli cheese fries. I'm glad to say the taste stays consistent. Their mission is simple: serve delicious, affordable food that guests will want to return to week after week. I would say, they nailed the mission! Bravo Umabo!
